About Me
I believe design should blend functionality & aesthetics to express warmth.
Beauty signals care. The right materials, tools, and systems serve a clear purpose. During my industrial design training, I was drawn to Nendo for their restraint, clarity, and quiet wit. My rule is simple: reduce until what remains feels inevitable, then make it warm. Less, but better.
I’m Pinyun, a Taiwanese product designer based in Indiana, pursuing an M.S. in Human–Computer Interaction at Indiana University. I grew up in Taipei learning to notice things: how a museum label guides the eye, how street signage negotiates chaos, how people adapt objects to fit their lives. That habit of observation still shapes how I design.
With roots in Industrial Design, I aim for products that read clearly and feel considered, and for systems that scale without losing their human tone. Through internships and an exchange in Germany, I learned how much storytelling and presentation shape impact. At IU, I serve as Social Media Manager for DeCo, our largest design community, and I lead hands-on workshops that help peers share ideas and turn them into realities.
Recently, I collaborated with Toyota Mobility Foundation and Southeast Community Services on mobility and pantry services. We spent time with neighbors, mapped barriers, and translated insights into service flows and touchpoints that respected people’s time, dignity, and goals. The outcome was more than screens. It was a clearer path through a complex system.
I see my practice at the intersection of craft, thinking, and empathy. I prototype early, test often, and edit until the experience feels useful and kind. I am hungry to keep learning, and to build the next thing that feels human and, in hindsight, obvious.
